India Tourism Sector foresees high winter business

When it comes to traveling in India, winter has always been a great time. Since much of India is very hot and humid during the summer and other months, winter is a time when the temperature and weather are very comfortable. Thus much of the rush for tourists is during the winter months. In a recent article published in a leading News portal, the eastern Himalayan region foresees a bright festive and winter season business this winter. The devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2015 had a significant negative impact on tourism in the region. However thereafter there has been a recovery in business and indeed it has been a commendable effort to revive tourism sector in the region.

What has contributed to the estimated growth of tourism in the region?

Indian tourism experts are of the opinion that a major contributor towards the foreseeable growth in the tourism sector in Nepal and in Eastern Himalaya region has been the high-value premium class tourism in India.

It is seen that most tourists visiting Nepal from Western Countries visit not just Nepal but also some other eastern Himalayan Indian tourist destinations as well. These include Darjeeling and Sikkim. In fact statistics in terms of tourism in the region reveal that of the 5 Lac domestic tourist who visit Nepal on an average as many as 50,000 travel to Darjeeling and Sikkim as well. Though low in terms of actual numbers of foreign tourists who visit Nepal they contribute a chunk of the revenue of Rs 350 Crores towards annual tourism business in the region.

In terms of Nepal, tourism statistics show that the country had over 7.50 lac tourists visiting the country in 2017. This is a growth of as much as 24% in comparison to the previous year. This huge growth has also had a positive impact on the Indian tourist destinations surrounding Nepal. Much more is expected with the winter now setting in.
