West Bengal Tourism all set for wooing foreign tourists
When you think about tourism of India, states like Goa or Kerala are the first ones which immediately spring to mind. However along with other states now, West Bengal tourism is determined to woo more tourists, including foreigners to its tourist destinations. We are in the midst of the festival season in this part of the country. In 2015 about 1.49 million foreign tourists visited West Bengal. However this time the state government has many new initiatives lined up in this direction. There are many new projects and packages in the offing.
During the Durga Puja season the State Government cashed in big
Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals of the country. It is definitely the grandest one for all Bengalis. It was in tune with this that the West Bengal Tourism department had designed many initiatives to tap in. These included the four-day long celebrations which were held in the first week of October. Other than this river cruise rides during the festivities were other major attractions arranged for.
Post Durga Puja: Many infrastructure projects are in pipeline too
To boost tourism in the state many infrastructural projects are in the pipeline too. Thus the Tourism department of the state has tied up with a Kerala based company. This company will build various houseboats for various locations like Mandarmani, Talsari etc. Investments to the tune of 1.50 crore is being made in building each of these houseboats. These boats will have 3 bedrooms. Each of them should be able to accommodate about 25 people in them.
To add value to beaches of the state projects are being planned targeting beaches of Digha. The project will have several value added services which include car parking gazebo for weekend travelers, beach side seating arrangements, lifeguard towers, shower rooms and cloak rooms in the beach destinations. Apart from the investments made by the state, some funding will also be made by the central government. The state government also launched a mobile app based on the theme “Experience of Bengal“.
When it comes to tourism in West bengal, Digha always plays a vital role. This is why the “Howrah – Duronto Express” had been started. Apart from this a new Kolkata – Digha Helicopter service has also been started since December 2015. Already following the launch, a very good response has been received. With a consistent demand in this service, it would be expanded and improved up on further.
So all in all, a lot is being done for boosting the tourism in West Bengal. So much is being done through the Private Public Partnership (PPP) model. Thus with Digha being a major destination in West Bengal tourism, you can expect that the tourism in the area would be improved further.
